Original Battery for a '65 GS?
« on: March 23, 2010, 08:25:20 AM »
Got another one of those hard questions for the experts out there.  What was the original battery in a '65 GS?  I have been told before that it was not the same DC-12 battery that came in the regular Skylark/Special and that it was in the same size case, but was a higher Cranking Amp and had different looking caps on it.
Does anyone have one of these or have any info on one?
I talked to the people at Antique Auto battery and they don't know anything about it, but would be willing to make them if we had something to go by.

Brian,

I think the case width and length dimensions were the same, but it was a taller.
I know Loren has info on this.

Brian,
Don't know about the caps, but you are right about the battery NOT being the same as what was used in the Skylark.

specifications:
                    Skylark:
                                 model: 1980558
                                 dimensions: 10  1/4" x  6  13/16" x  8  27/32" high
capacity:  61 amp hrs @ 20 hr rate

                     Gran Sport:
                                  model: 1980568
                                  dimensions: 10  1/4 " x  6  13/16"  x  9  11/16" high
capacity: 70 amp hrs @ 20 hr rate

Will look some more and see if  there is some more info available.
